After arriving in the UK as a South African working holidaymaker, I worked for a security firm for a few months before landing a job in a local authority (Southwark Council, SE London)
At SC I was fortunate to work alongside IT professionals, and project managers and my main responsibilities initially were to look after the access control system across different sites and buildings to configure and all or disallow access to staff based on where they were allowed access.
While working within this local authority, I did change jobs and was working in Health and Social Care as a finance clerk until 2010. We decided as a family that I’d be better off being a stay at home parent for our newborn which arrived in Feb 2010.
